"Fields of Action" is inspired by "Lines of Action (LOA)" from Claude Soucie, which was described in Sid Sackson's "A Gamut of Games" (1969). Sid Sackson's "variation" of this great abstract strategy game was originally published alongside the "oldie" LOA in the quarterly German Spielbox magazine (1982/3), and later re-published in the February/March 1989 issue of GAMES Magazine (the rules were later also printed in R. Wayne Schmittberger's "New Rules for Classic Games" book). Never commercially published, this game can be played with a checkerboard and twelve checkers of contrasting colors. Each player's pieces are numbered 1-12, and the object is to capture five opposing pieces in numerical sequence. The number of spaces a piece moves is equal to the number of pieces adjacent to it.
